About Revolving Doors
Revolving Doors Agency is the UK’s only charity dedicated to improving the lives of people who are caught up in a damaging cycle of crisis, crime and mental illness. We have over 10 years experience of working innovatively with this group.
Revolving Doors achieves its mission by combining award - winning, service development and research, national public policy work and inclusive user involvement.
The ‘revolving door’ group
The ‘revolving door’ group refers to people who are caught in a cycle of crisis, crime and mental illness, whereby they are repeatedly in contact with the police and often detained in prison. This group has multiple problems for which they need the input of a wide range of agencies, including housing, drugs, mental health, and benefits.
The mental health problems of the group are usually a core or exacerbating factor. Routinely, they fall through the gaps of existing mental health service provision, as their mental health problems are not considered sufficiently ‘severe’ to warrant care from statutory services; but they are frequently excluded from mainstream services in the community, such as GPs and Housing Associations, on account of the perceived complexity of their needs and their often challenging behaviour.
NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE
After four and half years as Chief Executive, Julian Corner has left Revolving Doors Agency to head up the Home Office's Crime Strategy Unit. We
wish him well with this important and challenging role, and thank him for his hard work and achievements.
We are delighted to announce Kevin Ireland is acting as Interim Chief Executive until we are in a position to seek a permanent replacement. Kevin
has led a number of organisations, including the London Housing Foundation and the South East London Community Foundation, as well as working for Save
the Children Fund.
On leaving, Julian said:

It has been a pleasure to lead Revolving Doors Agency. I have been particularly grateful to our many partners and supporters for the help they have given in delivering change on behalf of our client group. The last few years have seen Revolving Doors launch its National Development Programme and work with Government to create the Adults facing Chronic Exclusion pathfinder. These achievements are rooted in partnership and collaboration, and we have been so lucky to work alongside highly expert and committed organisations and people. It is vital now that we start to see some real change in the way that national policy supports improved outcomes for people with multiple needs. I wish the organisation and its partners well with this urgent challenge.

It's a real privilege to be able to help Revolving Doors in securing its continuing success. I have known RDA for several years, having led the London Housing Foundation's early funding of the Islington Link Worker Scheme. I have always been clear of the importance of Revolving Doors' mission, the excellent work it does in fulfilling this and the skill and commitment of its staff team. Since it began, Revolving Doors has seen and participated in real improvements for those with multiple needs, but there remains a big challenge in securing this for all people nationally, particularly those in contact with the criminal justice system. I look forward to working with everyone to shape an organisation that can help deliver this change.
